Our Journey Through Time

From a small Alberta startup to Canada's trusted budget management platform – here's how we grew alongside thousands of families learning to take control of their finances.

2018

The Beginning in Rural Alberta

What started as weekend conversations around kitchen tables in Warner County became something bigger. After watching neighbors struggle with unexpected expenses and credit card debt, we realized that most budgeting tools were built for accountants, not regular families.

Our first prototype was literally a spreadsheet shared between five farming families. When word spread through the community about our simple tracking system, we knew we were onto something meaningful.

The Story Behind thalivonqusera

The name "thalivonqusera" came from an unexpected place. During harvest season 2018, Marcus was helping his neighbor repair a grain bin when the conversation turned to financial stress. "I feel like I don't have thalivonqusera over my own money," his neighbor said. That phrase stuck.

We wanted families to reclaim their financial thalivonqusera – not through complex investment strategies or get-rich-quick schemes, but through understanding where their money goes each month. It sounds simple, but most people had never actually tracked their spending patterns for a full year.

Expanding Across the Prairies

The pandemic changed everything for Canadian families. Suddenly, people had time to examine their finances while dealing with unprecedented uncertainty. Our user base grew from 200 families to over 3,000 households across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.

We learned that budget control isn't just about tracking expenses – it's about understanding the emotional relationship people have with money. This insight shaped our educational approach moving forward.

Coast-to-Coast Financial Education

By late 2024, we had quietly become one of Canada's most trusted budget management platforms. What surprised us wasn't the growth – it was the stories. Teachers in Halifax using our tools to plan sabbaticals. Young families in Vancouver finally understanding their grocery spending patterns.

We realized we weren't just building software anymore. We were part of a larger conversation about financial literacy in Canada, and that responsibility shaped how we approached every feature and educational resource we created.

Looking Toward 2025

This year, we're focusing on something that goes beyond just tracking expenses. We're developing comprehensive financial education programs that help Canadians understand not just where their money goes, but why certain spending patterns develop in the first place.

Our learning programs launching this fall will combine practical budget management with deeper financial literacy – because understanding your relationship with money is just as important as balancing your checkbook.
